How does a commercial contractor get a permit to move an exising emergency generator from one site t

I have to find out how to get a commercial contractor licensing information to move an emergency generator. I can't get a hold of anyone in the state offices (go figure!) and I need to get this info to them very soon. Any leads?

What state? All laws in each state may be different.

edit:

Contact the City that's involved. In Minnesota each City is required to monitor and deal with permits. Even if Iowa may have the state deal with permits, they may have an inside track or contact.

As a commercial contractor I can tell you, it varies state by state. Why don't you call a qualified "ALREADY LICENSED" commercial contractor to do the work? A standby generator is usually "started up" (programmed) by the generator manufacturer after the contractor installs. Some contractors are certified by these manufacturers to do the start up also.

People in the general public, are usually NOT qualified to do this work. If your goal is saving money, think twice, it could cost you more money(damage to generator) AND the safety of those working with this equipment.
